SAMPARC Bal Asha Ghar Balgram is a licensed Children’s Home operating under the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Maharashtra. The project has been under the management of SAMPARC since August 2005 and is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of children of sex workers, with a broader vision of supporting vulnerable children in need of care and protection.
The transition of the Bal Asha Ghar project into SAMPARC’s framework was facilitated through the efforts of Dr. Nico Nobel of Stichting Geron, Netherlands, and the Rotary Club of Mumbai Midtown. This transition was formally sanctioned by the Charity Commissioner of Mumbai.
Since its integration, SAMPARC Bal Asha Ghar has undergone significant transformation in terms of structure, care standards, and community engagement. Despite initial challenges in regularizing the operations, the project today functions on par with other SAMPARC Balgrams across the country. It upholds the organization’s commitment to providing a family-like, secure, and dignified environment for children, free from stigma and discrimination.
The home not only provides essential shelter and care but also ensures that each child receives appropriate education, healthcare, emotional support, and skill development opportunities. It stands as a beacon of hope for children from highly vulnerable backgrounds, offering them a future filled with dignity, inclusion, and opportunity.
An old women found Akshay alone and helpless in Kamathipura Mumbai area when he was only one year old. The woman was a beggar and she lived on streets. She picked up the child and took care of the child for some period but she strongly felt the need to educate him. So she approached an organization in Mumbai were Akshay was admitted. Later, Akshay was admitted to SAMPARC Bal Asha Ghar for his overall care and education by Child Welfare Committee, Pune at the age of 4.Akshay being an orphan child knew the importance of education in his life. Right from his childhood Akshay is hardworking well behaved obedient child being good in education scored 77% in SSC board exam. After his 10th class, he successfully completed “Diploma in Nursing” from Nari Institute, Nasik. He stood 2nd in the college. After completion of the course he got employment in Dilasa Day Care Centre in Nasik as a male nurse and care taker. Presently, he took up a new job in Naik Navre Developers Pvt. Ltd. as a Front Desk Receptionist in Wadgaon, as he is pursuing his Graduation course through distance education. Also he is taking care of the old woman as his grandmother who had helped him in childhood.

Free from immoral trafficking & living with dignity for better future, 154 children became self-reliant and live with dignity, 20 boys are employed.
In the last 5 years an excellent progress was found. 100% success of children in education, sports changed the environment of the centre. Now the children love the place as their home and are stable in the centre. 65 children have completed higher education from the centre till today. SAMPARC Bal Asha Ghar is situated in a picturesque environment at the foothills of koraigad hills, lonavla, near Sahara Ambey Valley. The centre is dedicated for the upbringing, education and rehabilitation of the children of socially victim women of red light area of Budhwarpeth, Pune. The centre is under the guidance and care of Mr.Manoj S.Gavali the Project Incharge, counselor, housemothers and Social Workers who look after the overall well-being of the children. A regular visiting doctor attends to the healthcare of the children. The centre is having balsadans (children’s home) with kitchen and dining hall along with a community hall, medical room, counseling room, staff quarters and playground on 5 acres land. The facilities for accommodation were improved by renovating the existing structure.
Children have been receiving training in Taekwondo in the centre and all the hard work and regular practice of children has helped them to win District, State and National level awards in Taekwondo. The children from the centre participate in various sports competitions and received various awards. The children from the centre actively participate in the cultivation of vegetables within the premises and they also take special interest in planting and nurturing plants. The financial transactions, care and protection of the children and various issues related to smooth functioning and progress of the centre are looked after by the Local Level Managing Committee.
