After receiving National Child Welfare Award from Govt. of India, SAMPARC realized the need to increase its responsibility to spread its working zone in other part of State and the Country. As a result Poynad centre was born in 1999 near to Arabian Ocean coastal area at village Poynad in Taluka Alibag, Dist. Raigad. Mr. Banerjee along with Dr.Kiran Mhatre started the project in a rented house in Poynad and subsequently the project was shifted to village Bandhan in Poynad where SAMPARC procured land and constructed children home for 50 children for care, education, overall development and rehabilitation, of orphan, poor, needy and disadvantaged children disadvantaged children of Raigad District in Maharashtra.

The centre is located in the scenic location of Konkan region, near Alibag, 15 km from Alibag & 124 km from Mumbai. There is separate accommodation for boys and girls living in the centre.

The unique part of the centre is children are excellent in sports and equally god in studies, drawing and extracurricular activities. Senior children are attending higher education in, Commercial Art, Commerce, Social Work and Nursing.

STORY OF CHANGE: Preeti (name changed)

Preeti’s father is absconding; her mother was unable to take care of her 2 children Preeti and her brother were admitted in SAMPARC Balgram. Preeti lost her mother 4 years back, after a prolonged medical illness. Preeti was under the care and upbringing of SAMPARC Balgram, Poynad since the age of 7 along with her brother. In SAMPARC she completed her Grade 12. Right from her childhood she is interested in art of drawing and painting, looking at her interest and talent SAMPARC enrolled her in JJ School of Arts, Mumbai where she completed her 4 year Commercial Arts course successfully. She has started her own media agency at Mumbai.

SAMPARC Bandhan-Poynad Balsadan is a Licensed Children’s Home under the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Maharashtra for the care of orphan and disadvantaged children. The centre is working under the guidance and leadership of Ms.Rekha Mokashi – Project Incharge, along with Counselor, housemothers, Social Workers and tutors. The children live in a homely atmosphere of care & support. Children from 1st to 4thstd attend primary School at Pezuri. Children from 5th to 10thstd attend Nana Patil High School, children from 11th to 12thstd attend N.N.Patil Junior College, one of the best Institute in the Konkan region. The academic record of the children is very good, the children always achieve 100% academic result. After attending regular school children receive tutoring in the centre by part time teachers. Also children receive training in General Knowledge, Reasoning, Math, Spoken English and Computers on Saturday and Sunday. The children also have a library with 1300 books in English and Marathi. A part time doctor attends the children and supervises the health aspect of the children and children do yoga every day. Children participate in various school level, taluka level, district level, state level competitions and have bagged many accolades for SAMPARC. All cultural and National festivals are celebrated in the centre and all the children participate and enjoy the same. The centre has one community hall, guest room, staff room, bal-sadans and a separate office.

The activities of this center are helped and guided by members of the Local Committee. This center was awarded with Samajik Seva Puraskar in the year 2002 as the best Balgram in Raigad District. Some of the old children of the centre are Basvaraj Ingle who has completed his Engineering and is working in a good company.
