The SAMPARC Medical Centre was established as a result of SAMPARC’s deep engagement with rural communities in Maval Taluka, Pune District. Since 1995, SAMPARC has been actively involved in addressing the health needs of underprivileged villagers, with an initial focus on sanitation, hygiene, safe drinking water, and nutritional awareness. Early efforts included collaborations with local traditional herbal medicine practitioners to explore the medicinal value of indigenous herbs and plants.

However, through continuous interaction at the grassroots level, it became evident that the community lacked access to preventive and curative healthcare services. Many preventable deaths occurred due to minor illnesses, untreated injuries, and snake bites. Recognizing this urgent need, Mr. Amitkumar Banerjee, with support from Dr. Lalit Chokhani, Trustee of SAMPARC, and Mrs. Lucilla Monti from Italy, launched a mobile medical van project. This initiative marked the beginning of organized healthcare outreach in the region, with the van providing medical services across 25 villages.

Over time, the need for a centralized healthcare facility became apparent. Consequently, SAMPARC established a dedicated Medical Centre at its Malavli campus, complete with a 14-bed facility for day-care treatment. Under the medical leadership of Dr. Satish Patil (MD), the Centre has grown into a comprehensive rural healthcare hub serving the marginalized population of Maval Taluka.

The SAMPARC Medical Centre now offers a broad range of healthcare services, including Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Dental Care, Vision Care, Gynaecology and a fully functional Pathology Lab. The Centre operates three Mobile Medical Clinics that reach out to 48 remote villages in the Maval and Mulshi blocks of Pune District. These mobile clinics provide essential medical services to patients who are otherwise unable to travel to medical facilities.

In addition to daily medical services, the Centre regularly organizes specialized health camps and awareness programs. These camps are conducted in collaboration with reputed medical institutions such as MIMER General Hospital (Talegaon), Bombay Hospital, and Pioneer Hospital. Medical experts from Mumbai and Pune volunteer their services in areas including general health, gynaecology, orthopaedics, dentistry, ophthalmology, ENT, and dermatology. One of the most impactful initiatives is the Jaipur Foot Camp, organized in partnership with Ruchika Women’s Club, Mumbai, and Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, which provides artificial limbs and mobility aids to disabled rural patients.

The Medical Centre also extends its care to children residing at SAMPARC Balgram, Bhaje, and Bal Asha Ghar. On average, over 40,000 underprivileged patients benefit from the Centre’s services annually.

Currently, the Centre’s healthcare outreach is supported by Ruchika Women’s Club Mumbai, Volkart Foundation Indian Trust, and Larsen & Toubro Public Charitable Trust, which together contribute to the Centre’s operational and outreach initiatives in 32 villages of Maval Block and 15 villages of Mulshi Block of Pune District.

Through its integrated model of fixed and mobile healthcare, SAMPARC Medical Centre stands as a beacon of hope and healing for thousands of marginalized individuals and families in rural Maharashtra.
